The Thompson 1928 "Chicago Typewriter" is a terrific reproduction of the gangster machine gun which was modified to use in WW2. The version 6 gearbox is the easiest to work on and upgrade of any I have encountered so far. It uses the same gears as a V7 gearbox but these gears are already just fine. I had to install metal bushings in mine but used it with the nylon bushings for almost a year with no problem. I upgraded mine to 400 fps (on the nose) and it is accurate. The hopup rubber is an odd one with two little nubs which in my case made it a little to "on" so I changed it out for a standard one. The stock of the Thompson can hold an 8.4v battery but I opened it up so I could use a 9.6v but I am sure those who want to use a lipo will find ample room. I was a bit chagrined that this model would not accept the M1A1 handguard without modification but with a dremel and patience I was able to alter an extra handguard to fit and make an M1928A1. The standard mags are plastic and hold about 49 rounds so be sure and either get a hicap which is metal and holds near 400 rounds, or buy Marui mags of which there are three varieties. They work very well with my Thompson. I have not used any weapon but the Thompson since I bought it and I do have many other fine rifles from which to choose. I highly recommend the Thompson. The body does not have the charging handle on top but that is minor in my opinion. CAW used to make a kit which was very expensive but it has been discontinued. Anyway fans of the Combat TV show will love this model once converted to look like Sgt. Saunders' "Tommy".

Not a faithful replica of the thompson. The real 1928 model had a bolt on the top of the receiver. this one has an M1 receiver which could not accept drum mags. It's like having an AK74, with an AK47 body, using 74 mags... It doesn't make sense.
