Cheating - why do players do it?
The rules of airsoft skirmishing are simple – if you get hit, you’re out. Sadly, what seems like a ‘harmless’ bit of rule-bending to some, is actually ruining the sport for others. and It’s time to put these people in their place...
There are times when play is not black and white, sometimes in the heat of a firefight you can be unsure as to whether you’ve been hit or not – and in these situations it’s a tough call to make. But to be honest, even if you suspect you’ve been hit, chances are your time is up. So what’s the big deal? You simply walk back to the re-gen point, load up and get ready for the next game. It’s not that difficult – well, apparently it is for some players...
I was horrified this month to find out that the UK might lose one of its most popular big games purely and simply because of players cheating! That’s right, some site operators are considering throwing in the towel when it comes to hosting ‘big games’ and why? You’ve guessed it, cheating. Serious players are losing interest in big games because certain players just won’t stick to the rules of the game.
So why do it? Airsoft skirmishing is all about being honest, and cheats can only acheive a hollow victory. Next time you consider cheating, be prepared for the consequences of your actions. At best, your opponents choosing not to play against you again, at worst, a site ban. And it does happen. I’ve seen a couple of ‘repeat offenders’ banned from my own site, and it’s not nice, but it certainly gets the message across.
Now you might argue that taking that course of action only passes the problem to another site, and perhaps you would be right, but if all sites adopt the same standards then the cheats will have nowhere to play. So come on guys, get vigilant. Don’t let these ‘players’ ruin our sport, and if you’re a cheater yourself, watch out.
Right, now that I’m off my soapbox, let me turn to this month’s edition of Ai which is brimming over with airsoft goodness. First off, we have a new feature – Staff Shooters. Our aim is to throw as much abuse at our staff weaponry and report back to you on what breaks and falls off, and what the Ai staff have had to do to keep a favoured AEG in tip top shape. We’ve also got an extended AEG review in which two S-Systems go head-to-head, but as a result of our extended feature we’ve dropped Personal Comms and Real-Deal for this issue, but fear not, they’ll be back in full effect next issue.
Talking of the next issue, we slide smoothly into Volume Three of Ai (that’s over 20 months of Ai being on the front line) and report on all that’s good, not so good and downright bad in the airsoft world. Ai has never been stronger, not only in our content and design, but in our circulation. And, thanks to our friends at Spartan Imports, Ai’s US edition is kicking up a storm with over thirty-five US retailers now stocking Ai. But we still need your views! The Ai Industry Awards are gathering momentum but there are no clear category winners at this stage, so I can’t stress how important you votes are. Turn to page 11 to make your voice heard, you really can make a difference – remember this is your industry.
