ARES TAR 21
(Dark Earth)

The T.A.R. 21 is an Israeli bullpup assault rifle with a selective fire system, the name T.A.R. 21 is an acronym for Tavor Assault Rifle - 21st Century. It was selected as the future assault rifle for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and has been the standard issued battle rifle for the Givati Brigade since August of 2006 and of the Golani Brigade in August of 2008. The IMI Tavor TAR21 can be seen in service with over 10 countries around Europe, and in the Middle-East. Ares has replicated the IMI Tavor TAR-21 with a fully FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) body and a built in Red Dot Sight as well as a laser aiming device. It features ambidextrous cocking levers with a 1-push bolt/spring release system. Both the front and rear iron sights are available through a simple flip, but are usually hidden along the top of the TAR-21. Due to the unique design of the ARES TAR-21, the spring is located right in the buttstock allowing quick and easy spring changes, therefore allowing you to upgrade/downgrade your rifle on the fly.

The Ares TAR-21 has been built to be compatible with HiCap M4/16 style magazines.

Warning, this will be a long review. I have had this gun for a little while, probably close to half a year or more. I'll start with the pro's of this gun. First the body is rock solid, there is nothing that I would classify as wobbly or weak on the external of this gun. There was actually a video floating around at one time where a person tested this body by hitting it with a hammer. The body did not break, and actually barely scuffed. So externally this gun will stand up to everything (within the realm of a normal airsoft game) you can throw at it. This gun is also very comfortable to hold, it sits rather well in the shoulder, and because it is a bullpup the weight is closer to the shoulder. The quick swap spring is a rather convent add-on, as well as the spring release. Rails on top are a big help on this gun as the original MARS sight that came with these guns was rather disappointing. Trigger response time is quick as the spring is already compressed from the previous cycle with this gun (hence the need for a spring release). ROF is pretty good, a 9.6V battery does this gun well. Now for the cons. Getting to the gearbox is a five letter word that starts with a B that I would prefer to keep out of a review. And the gearbox itself is the same, unless you have a fair amount of experience. I do not have professional experience, hence the reason why I sent this gun back to have it repaired at Kastway. After a couple of times of doing this, (which the Kastway guys did do a great job, and I will not knock their techs, they do a very good job, but this gun holds a gremlin like no tomorrow,) I took the gun apart. This is how I have come to learn that the gun is hard to take apart and put together, and even harder when you lack professional experience. But with that being said, it can be done, you just have to have a lot of time and read a lot of forums. In other words, leave it to the pro's it will defiantly save you in the long run. I would recommend this gun to anyone who has experience in working on airsoft, or who is technically inclined enough to put the work into working on this gun, but for novices I would not recommend this gun because most cases you have to work on it out of the box. A couple known problems to this guns as pointed out on some forums (this took some digging). There is a problem with the fire selector part inside the gearbox. It is actually messed up from manufacture in some cases, and will have to have parts of it filed down for it to act smoothly (which returning this will fix this problems). Another problem is in previous versions the wiring is pretty poor. This continues at least in the one I got, there were some splits in the wires themselves that caused issues along with poor contact in the battery connector. This gun also has issues in the air nozzle, and it is recommended that you replace this or have someone replace it, as it has a poor seal, and leads to a low FPS. One final problem is that the hop up has a slight problem in that the wheel doesn't always stay in position, meaning that your hop up turns off over a few shots. This is fixable by putting a shim under the screw holding the wheel down. Overall I really like this gun, but it requires a lot of patience and a little luck to get it to where you want it.
